The Chelan FFA Apple CDE team hoists the District VII Apple Judging CDE traveling trophy for the 8th year in a row.
The Chelan FFA Apple Career Development Event team successfully defended their District VII Apple CDE Championship for the eighth year in a row and the tenth time in the last eleven years. The District VII Apple CDE was held at the Manson Grange hall on Tuesday November 20th., with a twelve team field representing six area FFA chapters.
Chelan FFA members were joined by members from Wenatchee, Cashmere, Manson, Bridgeport, and Tonasket. Contestants had to complete ten practicum areas relevant the Tree Fruit Industry in Washington. The practicum areas included: Bloom Date, Pressure Testing, Red Apple Grading, Green and Yellow Apple Grading, Variety Identification, Entomology, Private Pesticide Applicators test, Tray Judging, and Blemish Identification.
When it was all settled, the Chelan Falls All Stars won the day. The team was made up of Lupe Villasenor who captured the first place individual earning a $500 Cash Award from the Chelan FFA Alumni, Jake Straub was the 2nd place Individual, Apol Blanco finished 3rd, Lindsey Brownfield finished 8th rounding out the Chelan Members in the top ten. Javier Rivera was the final team member for Chelan. The Chelan 2 team of Jesus Rodriguez, Bobby Hanson, Levi Greenway, Amanda Reeves, and Alex Diaz earned a 5th place finish. Ben Lorenz and Chad Miller were alternates for the Chelan Chapter.
The Apple team now focuses on defending their State Championship from 2011 at the Washington State Apple CDE in Yakima and the 108th Annual Washington Horticulture Association Convention on December 5th. The Chelan FFA has captured five state titles in the last ten years.
