On January 18th, Bonners Ferry FFA members attend the Agronomy Career Development Event and District Officer Sifting event, in Moscow, Idaho. Members that attended this event included Collin Stone, Emma Pluid, Spencer Jantz, Erica Wood, Kate Wood, Dani Hooper, Bobby Goad, Dennis Alexander Gabby Munson, and MaKenzie Carle.

The Agronomy Career Development Event or CDE is an event that is designed towards the farming aspect of agriculture. For this completion members must identify 40 plant samples, 40 seed samples and sort through seed trays and determine if there are any seed defects and then score the trays appropriately. This event requires a lot of time and dedication to studying and also requires a good memory and knowledge of seed and plant samples. Bonners Ferry received first place in this event. Collin Stone received second high individual in this event. Dennis Alexander, Bobby Goad, Spencer Jantz, Erica Wood, and Gabby Munson also placed in the top 10.

District Officer sifting is a process where FFA members and other designated people select six members to an officer team to lead the North Idaho District which spans from Bonners Ferry all the way to Grangeville. Members turn in an application and then go through an interview process. After members from all across the district are done with the interview process, it is the job of the people who interviewed them to pick members who would best fit the positions of the jobs required. Gabby Munson, Kate Wood, and MaKenzie Carle participated in the District Officer Sifting event.  Gabby Munson received the Vice President position, which she will hold until next January.

The purpose of the District CDE’s is to prepare students for State CDE’s which is at the beginning of June in Moscow, Idaho.  At the state level students from the North Idaho District compete with members all over the state to have a chance to represent Idaho at the national level.
