Larry Wogman of North Powder gave La Grande FFA an 860 pound purebred Angus steer. The steer dubbed, “Skittles” has been primarily cared for by La Grande FFA member Kaleb Ricker. Also helping with the steer have been members Chelesa Chiles, Bailey Blagg, Clayton Lenker, Callahan Anderes, Jake Wagoner and Taylor Robinson. Kaleb has been feeding hay and PGG’s mixed ration twice a day since we got the steer. Kaleb weighs the steer every three weeks.
“The outpouring of support for this project has been impressive” said Paul Anderes, La Grande FFA Advisor. Don Shaw of Shaw Cattle Company has provided pen, shelter and use of his scales. Jonel Ricker has volunteered to purchase all of the feed for the steer. “This has been a great project to bring the kids together to all be able to help get the steer to Eastern Oregon Livestock Show.” said Anderes.
FFA Chapters have the opportunity to raise two animals to go to Eastern Oregon Livestock Show, one as a donation to EOLS and the other goes directly back to the Chapter. This year’s Eastern Oregon Livestock Show starts June 6th with official weigh in and the market animal sale is Saturday June 9th.
