Northern California braces for weekend storm system

The current storm impacting much of Northern California is expected to continue into Saturday.

The next system, which the National Weather Service forecasts to hit Sunday, will likely be the strongest and wettest in the series of storms rolling in from the Pacific.

After a break Monday, the next storm should arrive Tuesday and Wednesday.

Strong, gusty winds and heavy rainfall will continue, with totals of 10 to 20 inches possible.

Several feet of snow may fall in the mountains. Wind gusts up to 120 mph have been reported along the crest of the Sierra Nevadas.

Flood advisories are in effect through the weekend for streams and rivers in Northern California. Friday may bring additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches at low elevations and 2 to 4 inches above 1,000 feet.

Areas beneath recent burn scars will also be susceptible to debris flow.

In Oregon, the Coquille River continues to rise near Coquille, and moderate flooding is forecast throughout the estuary to Myrtle Point.

In Washington, the combination of seasonal high tides and lower atmospheric pressure raises the potential of minor tidal overflow Friday and Saturday.
