More sheep killed by wolf in E. Oregon

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife agents have confirmed that a wolf is responsible for the death of three more sheep in Umatilla County.

The depredation occurred on the morning of May 12 in a small pen near the house of a private landowner in the Weston Mountain area.

One adult ram sheep was found dead at the scene. Three other rams were severely injured, wildlife officials said. One was euthanized as a result of its injuries.

On May 16, a third sheep died as a result of injuries sustained in the attack.

Bite marks consistent with wolves, coupled with the discovery of a set of wolf tracks approximately 130 yards from the sheep pen, led to the confirmation. The attack occurred approximately six miles from the site of a May 2 wolf attack.

The May 12 incident brings to seven the total number of sheep killed by wolves in northern Umatilla County since May 1.
