Sheep and wool markets

Wool prices in cents per pound and foreign currency per kilogram, sheep prices in dollars per hundredweight (cwt.) except some replacement animals on per head basis as indicated.

Feb. 8

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was moderate this week. There was 222,100 lbs. of confirmed sales this week. Warehouses are beginning to see some wool come in. Demand light to moderate.

Domestic wool trading on a greasy basis was slow this week. There was no confirmed sales this week.

Domestic Wool Tags - delivered to buyer, greasy basis:

The FSA effective LDP rate for wool is unchanged at $0 per pound. The FSA effective LDP rate for mohair is unchanged at $0 per pound.

Feb. 8

Compared to last week slaughter lambs were steady to $5 higher and at New Holland, Pa., $10-20 higher. Slaughter ewes were steady to $5 higher, instances $10-20 higher. Feeder lambs were steady to $5 lower. At San Angelo, Texas, 3,684 head sold in a one-day sale. No sales in Equity Electronic Auction. In direct trading no comparison on slaughter ewes; replacement ewes steady; feeder lambs were not tested. 4,700 head of negotiated sales of slaughter lambs were $3-4 higher and 12,700 head of formula sales of dressed lambs under 55 lbs. were not well tested; 55-65 were $4 higher; 65-85 lbs. were $3-5 lower and over 85 lbs. were steady. 5,738 lamb carcasses sold with 45 lbs. and down $12.95 lower; 45-65 lbs. $6.27-9.37 lower and 65 lbs. and up $.65-1.22 higher.

San Angelo: shorn and wooled 100-150 lbs. $100-114.

SLAUGHTER LAMBS Choice and Prime 1:

San Angelo: 40-60 lbs. $180-208; 60-70 lbs. $168-184; 70-80 lbs. $150-168; 80-90 lbs. $130-148, few $156; 90-100 lbs. $121-134.

DIRECT TRADING (Lambs with 3-4 percent shrink or equivalent)

4,700 Slaughter Lambs shorn and wooled 128-190 lbs. $106.65-130 (wtd avg $117.46); no dressed sales reported.

Idaho: 300 Slaughter Ewes Utility and Good 1-3 35; Cull and Utility 1-2 $10.

SLAUGHTER EWES:

San Angelo: Good 2-3 (fleshy) $44-56; Utility and Good 1-3 (medium flesh) $57-66, high-yielding $70-80; Utility 1-2 (thin) $45-52.

FEEDER LAMBS Medium and Large 1-2:

San Angelo: 60-790 lbs. $130-140; 70-95 lbs. $125-135, new crop $140-156.

REPLACEMENT EWES Medium and Large 1-2:

San Angelo: ewe lambs 120 lbs. $112 cwt; baby tooth to solid mouth $135 per head.
