O'NEILL, Neb. (AP) -- Add Holt County to the list of areas designated by the state as "livestock friendly."
Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy announced that Holt is the 21st Nebraska county to receive the official state recognition. He presented a Livestock Friendly certificate Friday to Holt County commissioners in O'Neill.
The program is coordinated by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. The county will receive road signs bearing the program logo to display along highways.
Counties apply for the livestock friendly designation by holding a public hearing and passing a resolution. County officials must then submit a completed application to the agriculture department.
