RED BLUFF, Calif. -- Tehama County Sheriff Dave Hencratt will host the sheriffs of nine other rural counties at a town hall meeting here June 23 to discuss rural areas' woes.
The 1:30 p.m. meeting at the fairgrounds will be this year's fourth Support Rural America gathering, at which local law enforcement and other officials will discuss the impact state and federal regulations have on the local economies.
County and state budget cuts have reduced law enforcement resources as the flagging timber, mining and agricultural industries have caused socioeconomic conditions to deteriorate. The officials have blamed the conditions on what they see as overbearing environmental regulations.
Hencratt is slated to be joined by the sheriffs of Siskiyou, Shasta, Del Norte, Plumas, Trinity, Modoc, Mendocino, Glenn and Humboldt counties. For information, visit www.supportruralamerica.com .
