SEATTLE (AP) -- Forecasters say cooler, drier air is moving into Washington and rains will give way to a chance of snow showers in many places.

Rains that started falling with a warm front Monday evening were ending Wednesday. About 2 inches fell at Olympia and just over an inch at Sea-Tac Airport. Meteorologist Doug McDonnal said the heaviest rains, more than 5 inches, fell over the Olympics.

With the arrival of a cold front, snow levels are dropping. McDonnal says there's a chance of 1 to 2 inches of snow by Thursday morning in the convergence zone of the north Puget Sound area, but not in the wider Seattle area.

In Eastern Washington, forecasters say the heavy snow threat is ending and there'll be a chance of snow showers into the weekend.
