Templeton FFA Has Big Weekend

Templeton, California-March 25, 2013-Templeton FFA was extremely busy over the weekend competing at the King City Regional Meeting, Modesto Junior College Field Day, and South Coast Region State Degree and Proficiency Awards Ceremony.
On Friday, March 22nd, members traveled to King City High School to the Spring Regional Meeting of the South Coast. Senior Kayla Hildebrand placed 4th in the Regional Job Interview contest and will advance to the state contest in April. Chapter Reporter Vanessa Soto was named Regional Star Reporter and had the second place chapter scrapbook. Vanessaâs scrapbook will move on to the state contest in April, and Vanessa will interview for State Star Reporter as well. Chapter Vice President Anna Hinrichs created the first place regional Program of Activities. This document will also move on to state competition in April.
On Saturday, March 23rd, the Specialty Animal Judging, Livestock Judging, and Job Interview teams traveled to the Modesto Junior College Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Field Day in Modesto, California. Kayla Hildebrand placed 3rd overall in the Job Interview Contest. The Specialty Animal Judging team, consisting of members Taylor Lindquist, Emily Kollmann, Dianna Dawson, and Camille Anderson was named the 2nd high team overall. Senior, Taylor Lindquist earned the award of high individual overall as well.
On Sunday, March 24th, over 75 Templeton parents, guests, and community members were present at the South Coast Region State Degree and Proficiency Award Ceremony held at the Clark Center in Arroyo Grande. Thirteen Templeton FFA members received their State FFA Degree working in excess of 500 hours and investing at least 1000 dollars on their Supervised Agriculture Experience Projects. Proficiency Awards were also presented to those students with excellent work experience or ownership projects based on an application and their student record books. 21 Templeton FFA members received sectional honors while 14 were regional winners and 7 were selected as state finalists. Samantha Mackle was recognized as the Regional Star Placement Winner for her work experience projects and Kayla Hildebrand was named the Regional Star Farmer Winner for her sheep production operation.
Additionally, Templeton High School Agriculture teacher Erin Thompson was recognized as the California Agriculture Teachers Association Regional Outstanding Young Teacher and was inducted as a Honorary member in the South Coast Region FFA.
