2013 Chelan County Fair Ambassadors Announced

The Board of Directors of the Chelan County Fair are proud to announce our 2013 Chelan County Fair AmbassadorsâApolinar Blanco and Jacob Straub.  Both of these young men are juniors at Chelan High School and our proud members of the Chelan FFA.  They will be the âface of the fairâ for next six months as they will represent the fair at parades, community events, and service club meetings. Their role is to inform and educate citizens of Chelan County about the specifics of the upcoming fair, how people can enter exhibits in the fair, and the importance of agriculture to Chelan County. They were chosen from a pool of nine applicants and at the end of their service will receive a $1000 scholarship for the work that they accomplish as Chelan County Fair Ambassadors.

Apolinar Blanco is the 17 year old son of Apolinar and Margarita Blanco of Chelan. He has shown market hogs at the fair for the past four years. At Chelan High School, he is a member of the ASB Leadership Team, National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, and the FFA. He is currently serving as the 2012-13 Chelan FFA Chapter Vice-President. He has also served as the Chelan FFA Sentinel and District VII Vice President. In addition to raising market hogs, he is employed as a line supervisor for Chelan Fruit during cherry harvest at their Beebee Plant. In FFA he has competed on the Livestock Evaluation, Meats Evaluation, Apple Judging, Potato Grading, Ag Issues Forum, Prepared Public Speaking, Marketing Plan, , Job Interview, First Year CDE, and Creed Speaking in state level competition.  His future plans are to attend Wenatchee Valley College or Walla Walla Community College then transfer to Washington State University or University of Idaho to become an agriculture education teacher and FFA Advisor.Â

Jacob Straub is the 17 year old son of Marc and Julie Straub of Chelan. He has shown market hogs and meat goats for the past two years. At Chelan High School he has been a member of the Football and Golf teams and the FFA. He is currently serving as the 2012-13 Chelan FFA Treasurer, and has served as Chelan InâClub Officer and District VII Reporter. He has also competed in Livestock Evaluation, Meats Evaluation, Tractor Driving, Apple Judging, Potato Judging, Marketing Plan, Ag Issues Forum, Forestry, and First Year member in state level competition. His future plans include attending Wenatchee Valley College then transferring to University of Idaho to pursue a degree in Wildlife Management.Â
