BOISE — Robert and Linda Rider of the Coeur d’Alene area were presented with the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation’s President’s Cup Award during the group’s annual meeting and Young Farmer and Rancher Conference.

The award, the organization’s highest honor, recognizes people who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting agriculture, according to a news release.

Rider Ranch focuses on agri-tourism and showing the ranching lifestyle to the public.

“It’s fun to be able to share that with them,” Linda Rider said. “I have a passion that people should know where their food comes from, and Farm Bureau has been a great avenue to do that.”

The award was among several that Farm Bureau leaders presented.

Parker-area farmers Braxton and Jamie Crapo received the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation’s Achiever Award.

The award recognizes young farmers or ranchers who have excelled in operating their businesses and in honing their leadership abilities. Candidates are evaluated based on their operation’s growth and financial progress, and their leadership within the Farm Bureau and outside the organization. They present to a panel of judges, who ask questions.

Kevin and Shelby Andrus, who operate a ranch near Lava Hot Springs, received the Excellence in Agriculture Award. It spotlights young Farm Bureau members who are agricultural enthusiasts but have not earned a majority of their income from an owned production-agriculture enterprise in the past three years.

Candidates are judged based on their understanding of agriculture issues as well as their leadership experiences and achievements. Kevin Andrus chairs the agricultural affairs committee of the Idaho House of Representatives.

The Achiever and Excellence awards are part of the young farmers and ranchers program available to members aged 18 to 35.

Wapello-area rancher Cole Lickley won the  annual Discussion Meet. The meet helps young producers hone public-speaking and problem-solving skills in a competition meant to simulate a committee meeting rather than a debate, according to the release.

Winners of the Achiever and Excellence awards, and the Discussion Meet, are slated to compete in the American Farm Bureau Federation annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jan. 19-24.

University of Idaho student Rachel Wandell won the collegiate discussion meet.

The Defender of Agriculture awards went to state Sen. Jim Guthrie, R-McCammon, and state Rep. Jason Monks, R-Meridian.
