USDA Wildlife Services employees killed an adult female wolf from the Tower Mountain Pack in Union County on July 10 after state biologists confirmed the pack had killed six sheep and injured a guardian dog.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on July 5 authorized USDA Wildlife Services, a federal agency, to kill one wolf from the Tower Mountain Pack following the July 2 attacks.

No other wolves will be killed from the pack, according to ODFW.

The sheep owner had a herder with the animals around the clock and also had guardian dogs and devices to scare wolves. The shepherd also moved the herd after an earlier attack by wolves from the Tower Mountain Pack.

Other recent confirmed wolf attacks on livestock in Northeastern Oregon:

July 9: Ruckel Ridge Pack, Summit Road, Umatilla County, one ewe sheep killed.

July 8: Bear Creek Pack, Bear Creek, Wallowa County, 4-month-old calf injured.

July 7: Bear Creek Pack, Bear Creek, Wallowa County, 4-month-old calf injured.

ODFW has authorized killing one or two wolves in the Lostine area after three confirmed and two probable attacks since late May.

The permit to kill up to two wolves is in effect through July 31.
