Oregon Flowers of Aurora won a $698,000 grant to purchase and install solar panels on its warehouses. That will offset rising costs from PGE, the utility, and help keep the business competitive.
“We’re always squeezed by South American imports that can compete against what we do for a fraction of the cost,” said Tyler Meskers, vice president and son of the founders.
The renewable energy system will save nearly $79,000 annually, replacing 714,000 kilowatt-hours — enough power for about 39 homes and 65% of the company’s energy use.
