- The Washington State Department of Agriculture intends to tighten rules that prevent pests and viruses from infecting vineyards.
Washington State University has established a new wine partnership with a university in Moldova.
WSU’s Department of Viticulture and Enology has agreed to share its programming expertise with the Technical University of Moldova.
The foreign institution recently absorbed its country’s state agriculture college and its viticulture program.
Moldova has a thriving winemaking industry with significant economic, cultural and historic importance, and the academic collaboration will promote an exchange of ideas.
“The purpose of our partnership is to develop a globally facing effort that promotes opportunities for student learning and faculty growth and development,” said Jean Dodson Peterson, WSU V&E department chairwoman.
Dodson Peterson envisions opportunities for Moldovan students to study at WSU and for WSU students to experience Moldova firsthand, gaining insights into the country’s distinctive viticulture practices.
She added in a news release that it was important for students to develop a global perspective and understand how and why the wine industry operates differently around the world.
