IRVINE, Calif. — Ron Ratto, president of Ratto Bros. Inc., Modesto, has been elected board chairman of Western Growers, an association representing growers of more than half of the nation’s fresh fruits, vegetables and tree nuts.

Elected at the association’s 93rd annual meeting in Palm Desert, Ratto, 67, will be chairman for one year, succeeding Craig Reade, a partner at Bonipak Produce in Santa Maria.

Ratto joined the Western Growers board in 2013. He is a fifth-generation farmer heading his family company with three cousins. They grow fresh herbs, greens and other vegetables on more than 1,000 acres near Modesto.

Founded in 1926, Western Growers represents fresh produce farmers in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.
