REDMOND, Ore. — The Central Oregon Ag Show will set up shop at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center in Redmond April 6-7 offering a one-of-a-kind combination of information, entertainment and education about agriculture.
Admission to the show is free.
The show features more than 80 exhibitors offering information about all of the latest agricultural equipment and services. Farmers and ranchers shouldn’t miss this opportunity.
Small Farm School
At the top of Saturday’s agenda is the Small Farm School, which is 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is presented by the Oregon State University Extension Service and co-produced by Deschutes Soil and Water Conservation District, High Desert Food and Farm Alliance and School of Ranch. The cost is $40. To register or find more information go to to http://tinyurl.com/4n5r7cya.
Four tracks of classes will focus on Laws and Regulations, Small Farm Business, Livestock and Animal Care and Farm Operational Management. The full schedule is included in the show guide at www.capitalpress.com.
The school will offer classes and roundtable discussions on important farm-related topics. Water rights, agri-tourism, raising poultry, beekeeping, horse health and soil health are just a few.
Kid Zone
For the younger set, there’s a Kid Zone sponsored by the Deschutes County Farm Bureau. Youngsters will get a chance to make ag-centric necklaces and bracelets — and even make a pedal-powered smoothie with an Oregon dairy princess-ambassador.
Working dogs
Clint Johnson is known throughout the region for his entertaining working dogs. He’ll put them through the paces, showing how they handle livestock.
Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Display
Also on hand will be the Early Day Gas Engine and Antique Tractor Display. Sponsored by Ed Staub and Sons Petroleum, the display will take attendees back in time to see how Central Oregon was settled.
High Desert Stampede
Also this year, the High Desert Stampede will kick up some dust, so folks can attend the ag show and head into the rodeo Saturday.
This year’s title sponsor for the Central Oregon Ag Show is Coastal Farm & Ranch.
Major and supporting sponsors are:
• Thompson Pump and Irrigation Inc.
• Midstate Power Products.
• Energy Trust of Oregon.
• Pacific Power.
• Ed Staub and Sons Petroleum.
• Oregon Department of Energy.
Pesticide classes
Three pesticide safety credits are available from Oregon OSHA for attending classes on Saturday. Starting at 9 a.m. is a class on respiratory protection, followed by spill prevention and pesticide storage at 10 and hazard communication at 11.
The same three classes will repeat in the afternoon starting at 2 p.m. and ending at 5.
