Highly pathogenic avian influenza, or HPAI,  has been found in cattle at an Idaho dairy farm, the state Department of Agriculture reports.

The cows were recently brought in to the Cassia County dairy from another state that had found HPAI in dairy cattle, according to the ISDA.

Officials in Texas and Kansas reported confirmed cases of HPAI in dairy cattle earlier this week.

The department has quarantined the farm, and no cattle can enter or leave. The infected cattle are also separated from the rest of the herd.

The department didn’t say how many cattle at the Idaho dairy tested positive.

Cattle infected with HPAI have these symptoms.

• Fever.

• Lethargy.

• Loss of appetite.

• Constipation.

• Thickened or colostrum-like milk.

• Decreased milk production.

Farmers with cattle that could be infected should contact the veterinarian and fill out the HPAI livestock screen.
