Comment: We continue to see the majority of feeder cattle to be unweaned and unvaccinated making them harder to sell. Value added calves continue to outsell the generic calves by 20-50 cents a pound. By value added we mean properly weaned and vaccinated calves with 2 rounds of respiratory protection. We are in desperate need of some rain that will bring a few more feeder buyers to town. The Cow and Bull market was 5-7 cheeper this week.

Comments: Monday’s all class cattle sale featured over 400 head of cattle, with about half the run cull cows and bulls and the other half light calves and yearlings. Slaughter cows were $10-$12 lower, as it seems we’ve hit the early fall drop in cow prices despite excellent buyer participation. Cows topped out at $133.00, and averaged $116.00-$120.00, with a steep discount for cows with any defect. Slaughter bulls held together better week over week, with the best of the bulls bringing $153.50, and an average of $141.50. Feeder cattle were steady, with bigger weaned calves and yearlings selling for a premium. Calves weighing 400 pounds brought right at $300.00 per hundred, with heifers selling for $270.00. 600-700 weight steers sold for $246.00 at the top and averaged $225.00, while same weight heifers sold for $230.00 at the high end. 700-800 weight steers brought $226.00 and averaged $215.00, while heifers brought up to $200.00 per pound.
