CORE pesticide classes offered

Sponsored by Oregonians for Food and Shelter, the CORE pesticide classes are an integral part of the educational component of the Willamette Valley Ag Expo.

Through the classes, attendees can keep current on their continuing education.

All of the classes are free to Willamette Valley Ag Expo attendees with paid admission ($5).

No pre-registration is required. Four credits are available.

Attendees must be present for the entire classes to receive the credits. The schedules for Tuesday and Thursday are identical.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

10:30-11:30 a.m. EPA Endangered Species Act Strategies and Mitigations. Kathryn Rifenburg, Oregon Department of Agriculture. Background: She has over 10 years of experience in the water quality and education fields.

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Bulletins Live Two Training. Dani Lightle, Oregonians for Food & Shelter. Background: After earning her Ph.D. in entomology from Oregon State University in 2013, she worked in tree and nut research and extension with the University of California. She then led the IR-4 program at Oregon State University before joining Oregonians for Food and Shelter.

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Best Practices and Solutions for Combating Pesticide Resistance. Thomas Jima, Oregon State University. Background: He joined the Oregon IPM Center in 2023 as an Integrated Pest Management educator. He holds M.S. degrees in plant biology and entomology, and a B.S. in plant sciences. He has over 10 years of international experience.

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. What Happens to Pesticides After They Are Sprayed. Christy Tanner, Oregon State University. Background: She is an Extension agronomist at Oregon State University and works with field crop producers in Linn, Benton and Lane counties on a range of crop production issues in mint, grass seed, legume seed, meadowfoam, cereals and other specialty seed crops. She holds a Ph.D. in horticulture and agronomy from the University of California-Davis.

Thursday, Nov. 14
