Washington Farm Bureau president Rosella Mosby will serve a one-year term on the American Farm Bureau Federation board, representing the Western region.

Mosby and husband Burr run a vegetable farm in King County. She has been president of the Washington Farm Bureau since 2021.

“One of my top priorities is ensuring a stable, reliable agricultural workforce while mitigating the rising costs of labor, which continue to put pressure on family farms,” Mosby told the Capital Press. “Additionally, I want to support mental health resources tailored specifically to those in agriculture, as the pressure of farming today are greater than ever.”

Water remains a critical issue, Mosby said.

“We must not only protect access to an affordable agricultural water supply but also advocate for its expansion to ensure the long-term viability of American farms,” she said.

Voluntary conservation efforts should be fully funded, rather than mandating “restrictive buffer regulations” that could limit farmers’ ability to produce food, she said.
Mosby also cited transportation and energy costs, and the need for viable pathways for farm succession planning that do not impose a heavy tax burden on the next generation.

“Losing two farms per day in Washington is not just a crisis for agriculture – it’s a direct threat to consumers’ access to locally grown food and the responsible land stewardship that farmers provide,” she said.

Mosby said she will work hard to ensure the voices of farmers and ranchers in Washington, and beyond, are heard at the national level.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our communities and economy, and together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for our industry,” she said.
