Compared to last week, Feeder Steers sold 1.00 to 6.00 higher with an exception of the Southeast region selling 3.00 to 4.00 lower. Feeder Heifers sold even: 5.00 lower to 5.00 higher. Demand was moderate to good.

In Missouri, Reporters noted that as the hotter weather moves in, buyers are becoming less eager to own bawling calves or those carrying extra hair.

Up in Nebraska demand for bawling calves is moderate to good. Temperatures in Texas hit triple digits on Tuesday marking the first heat wave as warm weather sets in.

The August feeder cattle contract closed at 254.80 down 1.60 from last Friday, the September closed at 255.85 on Friday. Live sales of negotiated cash fed cattle trade in the Southern Plains sold 1.00 lower at 185.00.

In Nebraska, live sales sold steady at 190.00, and dressed sales remained steady as well at 301.00.

Feedlot sales continue to hold steady and continue to sell with a very positive basis and giving optimism to feedlots as they try to back fill empty pens.

Choice boxed beef closed the week 3.55 higher at 316.75 while Select was 0.57 lower at 301.14 for the same period. Weekly Cattle Slaughter under federal inspection estimated at 614K, 74K more than last week and 2K less than a year ago. Year to Date Cattle Slaughter is currently 631K less than a year ago.

Auction volume this week included 51 percent weighing over 600 lbs and 43 percent heifers.

Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (8.9% Steers, 91.1% Heifers). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 100%. Unless otherwise noted, Feeder Cattle prices FOB based on net weights after a 2% shrink or equivalent, with a 8-12 cent slide >600 lbs. Livestock reported this week originated from AZ, ID, NV.
